Learning how to make your own braided rug is a great way to save money and start a fun new hobby at home. Materials
You will need a certain amount of raw materials before you get started. You can go to a local store and buy your own fabric or use some that you have lying around the house. You will want to get a few different colors to give your new braided rug an elegant and vibrant look.
The first thing you want to do is take your raw fabric and cut it into 1.5 inch wide strips. You can choose three of these strips and pin them together at the top with a safety pin big enough to hold them. The strips can be a different length if needed.
Second, begin to braid the stips of fabric. If you do not know how to make a braid, go to Youtube and you will find many tutorials to take you through the process. Continue to braid the stips until you have about 3-4 inches of material left at the end. Once you do, you can attach new strips to the ones you are using and continue the process.
Once the braided material is up to 6-8 feet long, you can then decide what shape you want the final product to be. Typically, braided rugs are either round or oval. You will now need to use a 6 inch long needle with a dull point to start the next step.
Take the braided fabric and put it into a circle or an oval shape. Then, use a needle to sew the ends together. You will continue to do this until your new braided rug takes shape. Finally, take the last pieces of braid and sew them back into the rug with the long needle. This will fill in the middle and at last, your new rug is finished!
Braided rugs are a great addition to any room such as your living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, guest room, etc. By making your own, you are giving your house a homemade look and feel that is more rewarding than if you went and bought one from a vendor.
